Do I need a permit for wait and load or skip bags?

For wait and load, no. The skip is only with you while you load it, and we take it straight away. For skip bags, you don’t need a permit if the bag sits on your driveway or other private land. If a bag needs to go on the road or pavement, the same council rules as for skips may apply, so check with us first.

What if I need the skip for longer than the permit allows?

Just let us know before it runs out and we’ll ask the council to extend it. The extra fee for the extension is added to your hire. Please don’t leave a skip on the road after its permit has expired, as the council can issue a fine.

Can I apply for the permit myself?

No. Skip permits are issued to the skip company rather than the customer, so we’ll apply for it on your behalf. All we need from you is the address and exactly where you’d like the skip placed.

How long does a permit take?

We usually need around [X] working days’ notice to get a permit from the council, so let us know as early as you can if your skip has to go on the road. If you need a skip sooner, ask about our wait and load service, which doesn’t need a permit.

How much does a skip permit cost in Wakefield?

The fee is set by Wakefield Council and is currently £[XX] for [each week / up to X days]. We add it to your skip hire, so you only make one payment to us. [If they charge admin on top: This includes a small admin charge of £[X] for arranging it. ]

What can I put in a bulk bag?

Most household, garden and light building waste is fine. That includes soil, rubble, bricks, garden cuttings, wood and general rubbish. The same rules apply as for skips, so asbestos, fridges, electricals, tyres, paint, batteries and gas bottles can’t go in.

Where does the bag need to be for collection?

Our wagon lifts the bag with a crane, so it needs to be within [X metres] of where the wagon can park. A driveway or front garden is usually ideal. Please keep the bag clear of overhead cables and tree branches, and don’t leave it behind locked gates or walls we can’t reach over. If you’re unsure, check with us before you start filling it.

How heavy can I fill it?

Each bag holds up to 1 tonne of waste. For heavy materials like soil, brick or rubble, that usually means filling it to around two-thirds full rather than right to the top. Lighter waste, such as garden cuttings or packaging, can go up to the top of the bag but shouldn’t spill over. If a bag is overfilled, we may not be able to lift it safely.

How much does a bulk bag cost?

Our 1 tonne skip bags start from £50 per bag, including the bag, collection and disposal. The price can vary depending on the type of waste, for example soil and rubble compared with general waste. Give us a call on 01924 371080 for an exact price.

How much does grab hire cost?

The price depends on how much waste you have, what type it is and how easy the site is to reach. Prices start from £[X] per load. Clean soil is often cheaper to dispose of than mixed waste. Get in touch with a few details, or a photo of the pile, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we arrive.
